01 New applications of adhesives

  1. 1. Anti-corrosion of mechanical equipment

At present, the steam pipes of ships are mostly insulated with aluminum silicate and asbestos. However, due to leakage or alternating hot and cold, condensed water is generated and gathered on the outer wall of the steam pipe at the bottom layer. In addition, the steam pipe is subjected to high temperature and soluble salt for a long time, and the outer wall is seriously corroded. For this reason, a water glass series adhesive can be used as a coating material on the bottom layer of aluminum silicate to form a coating with an enamel-like structure. Its thermal expansion coefficient is similar to that of the pipe, with small thermal stress and no cracking. In mechanical installation, components are often fixed with bolts.

 

Components fixed by bolts will be exposed to air for a long time, which will cause crevice corrosion. During the operation of the machine, the bolts may sometimes loosen due to severe vibration. To solve this problem, the connecting components can be bonded with inorganic adhesives before connecting with bolts during mechanical installation. This can not only play a role in reinforcement, but also have an anti-corrosion effect.

 

  1. 2. Used for biomedical purposes

The composition of the material hydroxyapatite Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2 (HA for short) bioceramic is close to the inorganic components of human bone, has good biocompatibility, can form a strong chemical bond with bone, and is an ideal hard tissue replacement material. However, the HA implants currently prepared generally have a high elastic modulus and low strength, and the activity is not ideal. Phosphate glass adhesive is used to bond the HA raw material powder together at a temperature lower than the traditional sintering temperature, thereby reducing the elastic modulus and ensuring the activity of the material.

 

The application of adhesives in medicine is hailed as a new growth point for the adhesive industry. Structural adhesives composed of epoxy resin or unsaturated polyester. In contemporary national defense technology, stealth submarines are one of the symbols of modernization of naval equipment. An important method of submarine stealth is to lay anechoic tiles on the outer shell of the submarine. Anechoic tiles are a type of rubber with sound-absorbing properties. 3.1 Tank maintenance

Cracks in the shell of a tank engine are common defects. Due to defects in the internal structure of the metal, stress concentration, fatigue, and prominent external forces, cracks often occur in different parts of the engine shell. If such problems are solved by welding, there are disadvantages such as brittleness, deformation, and reduced strength, as well as loss of electrical energy and equipment. Using special bonding technology to deal with such cracks will achieve fast, good, and economical results.

 

3.2. Used in military aircraft light bombers

It mainly flies at subsonic or transonic speeds. The fuselage and wing outer skins are made of aluminum alloy plates with a thickness of less than 1.5mm, and some are only 0.4-0.8mm thick, reinforced by corrugated profiles. It is very difficult to rivet such a thin structure, and the use of adhesive structure can not only overcome the deformation caused by riveted thin skin, the overall strength loss caused by rivet scratches, reduce tooling, shorten the assembly cycle, but also increase the corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance and damage safety of the structure. In modern high-performance military aircraft, adhesives are needed to seal the integral fuel tanks of the wings or the integral fuel tanks of the fuselage. The bonding and sealing between the plexiglass and polyester tape of the fighter cockpit requires high-performance adhesives.

 

 

3.3. Preparation of camouflage materials

For the army's ground weapons, the threat is mainly from 8-14μm infrared thermal imagers. The main way to achieve infrared stealth is to develop infrared camouflage coatings with different emissivity. Through the different emissivity of the coating, the target shape can be effectively segmented into infrared images to achieve the purpose of integrating the target with the background. From the research content of infrared stealth coatings, high-transparency adhesives are one of the technical approaches taken. The resin does not contain absorbing groups in the 8-14μm infrared atmospheric window to achieve the low radiation characteristics of the adhesive itself in the infrared window. Radar coating is a functional material that can absorb electromagnetic waves, reduce the target radar characteristic signal, and make it difficult to be discovered and identified.
