- 4. Hot melt adhesive has a 100% solid content, is easy to store, energy-saving, environmentally friendly, non-toxic, and will not cause secondary pollution to the environment.
- 5. Resources are scarce in today's world. Many automobile companies have considered recycling resources after the cars are scrapped when producing them. Hot melt adhesive has the characteristic of melting when heated, which has more advantages when recycling and disassembling cars.
Types of hot melt adhesives for automobiles:
Most hot melt adhesives are used in automobiles, but different parts and uses will use different types of hot melt adhesives. According to their functions, they can be divided into two categories: bonding type and sealing type. The sealing type mainly uses butyl adhesives, which will not be discussed here. If divided by use and construction temperature, they can be divided into ordinary type and heat-resistant type. Automobiles are mainly driven outdoors, and hot melt adhesives are generally required to have certain heat resistance. If classified by material, there are EVA, rubber, APAO, PUR, PA, PES, etc., and the shapes are block, film, rod, granule and powder.
Application of hot melt adhesive in automobiles:
A car is made up of thousands of parts, and there are many parts that use hot melt adhesive. Here are some of the most common parts that use hot melt adhesive:
- 1. For headlights, the traditional method is to use a rubber sealing strip with holes and tighten it with screws. After using hot melt adhesive, it can be quickly bonded and sealed at the same time, which not only reduces costs but also facilitates automated production. The types of hot melt adhesives are mainly rubber type, APAO type and PUR type, which require good temperature resistance, high bonding glass strength and vibration resistance. Currently, two-component adhesives are also used. License plate lights also use heat-resistant hot melt adhesive sticks to fix wiring harnesses and electronic components.
- 2. In the past, the dashboard, ventilation duct, interior fixing buckles, etc. were fixed and connected by mechanical methods, which was not only time-consuming and labor-intensive, but also inefficient and had poor sealing performance. The use of hot melt adhesive has greatly improved production efficiency and product quality. The main hot melt adhesive sticks used are heat-resistant ones, and the base materials are EVA and polyolefin types.
- 3. Car roof, car roof is a composite of plastic sheets, the types of hot melt adhesive are mainly adhesive film and adhesive powder, and the base material is PE and EVA.
- 4. Car door panels: Hot melt adhesive is required for assembly of car door panels. There are PP parts bonding, audio and wiring harness fixing. APAO and temperature-resistant adhesive sticks are mainly used.
- 5. Car carpets, floor insulation pads, trunk buckles, etc. are the places where hot melt adhesive is used most in cars. The types of hot melt adhesive include glue blocks, glue pellets and glue sticks. There are pressure-sensitive adhesives, EVA glue pellets, glue sticks and APAO. They require a long open time, easy assembly and bonding of large parts, good heat resistance and less odor.
- 6. Fixing the car wiring harness. There are a lot of wires inside the car. So many wiring harnesses cannot be fixed with wire tubes like our home decoration. Fixing with hot melt adhesive is a time-saving and efficient method. Hot melt adhesive has a certain elasticity and will not fall off during bumpy driving. It is easy to disassemble when maintenance is needed. Glue sticks and APAO type hot melt adhesives are mainly used.
